Tulpen: Wij lieten ons verrassen

Tulips: We were surprised

Beautiful to see

A feast for the eyes.

Tulips are seen as a Dutch symbol. That is why we were inspired to design beautiful jewelry from them.

Actually, this special flower only appeared in our country from the 16th century onwards, thanks to our explorers.

The tulip comes to the Netherlands

The tulip became increasingly popular in the Netherlands. Also during the golden age. The tulip was often used in paintings. In the 17th century the price went up enormously because it became a status flower. The tulips became so expensive that they were even used as a means of payment, until the tulip market completely collapsed. This period is called the 'tulip mania'.

The bond between the Dutch and the Tulip remains strong. Tulip festivals are held annually in the spring. Even in New York (formerly New Amsterdam) and Holland, Michigan, Tulips are still popular and tulip festivals are held there too.

The name

The name of the Tulip comes from Turkey, where we probably got the very first tulips from. The Tulip was often worn by Sultans on their turban. That is how the flower got the name 'Tulipan'.

The Netherlands is now a major export country for tulips and you can find this flower in gift shops in our country.

Many different tulips

The Tulip has many different types of colours. There are about 150 different Tulips, more than 3000 varieties.

It comes in almost every color you can think of; red, yellow, white, pink, orange, purple and so on. In addition to solid colors, there are also tulips that are multi-colored.

Symbolic value

Although the tulip is in any case a symbol of the Netherlands, each colour also has its own meaning.

What color tells you

Red: The red tulip also stands for love. In addition to love, the red tulip symbolizes loyalty and friendship.
Yellow: In the past, the yellow tulip did not have such a positive meaning, it stood for hopeless love. Fortunately, that meaning has changed now. Yellow is also seen as the color of the sun and stands for warmth. In addition, the yellow tulip stands for cheerfulness and fun.
Pink: The color pink stands for sweet and soft. The symbolic meaning of the pink tulip is also sweet and soft, they symbolize happiness and elegance.
Purple: The color purple stands for royal prowess and for peace and spirituality. The purple tulip is actually suitable for any occasion.
